Railbelt Conference awards out, QB Henry named OPOY

The Railbelt Conference awards were released this week, with Interior players being tabbed for top spots.

The Interior wrestling programs started their seasons with a pair tournaments.

The UAF swim program opened PCSC action with a pair of losses to Azusa Pacific University over the weekend. The shorthanded Nanooks field 12 swimmers, while most conference rosters have 18. “With the 12 that we have, every single one of them has stepped up and done the job and gone above and beyond of what they're expected to do." UAF Head Coach Becca Weiland said.

The Lathrop Malemutes powered their way through the Railbelt Conference and steamrolled Eagle River in the semifinals of the playoffs. That is when they met the now eight-time defending state champion Soldotna Stars in the title game. Jace Henry generated over 200 yards on the ground and 3 touchdowns, but it was not enough against the powerhouse in Soldotna, who defeated the Malemutes 69-23, adding on to their already historic dynasty.

Sometimes, the puck doesn’t bounce your way. Despite outshooting Janesville 39-19 on Saturday night, the Ice Dogs could not find the back of the net enough, falling 4-2 to the Jets at the Dipper.
