FAIRBANKS, Alaska. (KTVF) The Alaska Nanooks women’s basketball program opened their run in the North Star Invitational with two straight wins.

Alaska first took down the Chadron State Eagles on Thanksgiving with a 87-73 victory. Freshman Sam Tolliver led the Nanooks with 31 points and 5 assists on 12-20 shooting. Kylie Wallace also chipped in a double-double of 17 points and 17 rebounds, five of her rebounds were on the offensive glass.

"I'm really proud of the way we came out tonight,” said UAF Head Coach Kerri Nakamoto in a press release. “We rebounded well on both ends of the floor and it was nice to play on our home court tonight. We look forward to the rest of the tournament."

Jocelyn Gandara continued her scoring ways with 17 points, as the Nooks shot 48.5% from the floor as a team. Alaska held the Eagles to only 36% shooting. Despite the offense playing well for the Nanooks, they did struggle from the free throw line going 16-29.

Then against the Converse College Valkyries, Alaska fought off early foul trouble to win 63-33. Sabrina Ungaro led the Nooks with 15 points, while Brittany Richards recorded her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Nanooks were a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe.
