UAF WBB fall on the road

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The UAF Women's Basketball team took their undefeated record to California for a pair of games.

It was a game of runs, as Biola University went on a 14-0 run early in the first half. It was ultimately too much for the Nanooks to overcome, falling 61-53. Out of the halftime break, UAF made the proper adjustments, going on their own 17-2 run to trim the lead, but the comeback effort fell short for their first loss of the season. Senior Kylie Wallace led the Nanooks in scoring, with 17 points and 10 rebounds, while newcomer Jocelyn Gandara chipped in 16 points on 7-10 shooting from the floor. Despite the loss, the Nanooks outscored Biola 36-19.

UAF then hit up San Diego, to face Point Loma University. The Sea Lions overpowered the Nanooks 88-58, sending UAF home from their road trip winless. Wallace and Gandara anchored the Nanooks offensively once again, both pouring in 18 points in the loss. Lathrop Alum Olivia Kraska made the most of her minutes, draining three shots from the foul line and hauling in three offensive rebounds in just six minutes. Now at 2-2, the Nanooks prepare for the Seawolf Hoops Classic in Anchorage next weekend. They face Westminster College at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, before taking on Parkside at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
