FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Alaska Nanooks are off to a hot start in the GNAC, after taking down the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets to improve to 4-0.
The Nooks had to comeback to force a fifth set, taking the series 3-2. Alaska was hosting a lot of elementary students in the Interior, with hundreds of students cheering on the blue and gold.
"Okay, what an awesome environment is the first thing." said Head Coach Brian Scott. "I'm so grateful to the school district for helping us make that event for all those elementary kids, and that was so much fun. That's the most ruckus crowd we have had from during warm ups all the way through, you know that was a fun group to have out there. So that's the first thing. I just want to thank them for being part of this, and thanks to MSUB for, that's definitely a change, to play at 11:30 in the morning. So thanks to MSUB for doing that as well."
The Nooks were led by Kim Wong with her 17 kills while Cate Whiting chipped in 45 assists. Head Coach Brian Scott saw his program turn on the defense to put away the Yellowjackets, as they won the fifth set 15-6.
The Nanooks now prepare for their next GNAC game at home next week, when they face the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks.
