FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Western Collegiate Hockey Association held their preseason teleconference for the upcoming 2019-2020 season.

According to their coaches' poll, the Nanooks are picked to finish seventh in the conference. Alaska returns Steven Jandric, who heads into his junior season after collecting 9 goals and 15 assists last year. The Nooks go into Head Coach Erik Largen's second season looking to build off their playoff appearance. However, this past offseason was a tumultuous one for the blue and gold, but Coach Largen is excited to get the players back on the ice.

"It's a blessing right, like all the stuff that went on this Summer with us and we were unsure for a little bit." said Largen. "You know, you have have optimism you have confidence that things are going to work out the right way but you never really know. There's that little doubt that's in you, so to be back out on the ice with the guys and to know they are going to be able, our seniors are going to graduate this year with a degree from Fairbanks and to know we get an opportunity to work with them and compete together every single day it's just a blessing. I'm very thankful for it."

The Nanooks will have their Blue and Gold game on September 28 at the Patty Ice Center, and will open their regular season with a series against Denver University on October 5.
