FAIRBANKS, Alaska - All five of our Interior Football teams were competing in the opening weekend of the high school season.
The West Valley Wolfpack football program started their season with all the dramatic flair you can ask for.
Maurice Maiden, with no time on the clock, found Avery Weston for the game winning touchdown to give the Wolfpack the 40 to 35 victory over the Service Cougars.
Maiden was the leader that the Wolfpack needed on Friday night, finishing the day with 227 passing yards and two touchdowns.
He also ran with the ball 17 times for 152 yards and 3 scores.
His biggest moment came in the fourth quarter after Service went up 35-34 with 34 seconds left in the game; he led the pack on the game-winning drive which culminated in the touchdown from Avery.
"I don't know, it was kind of all on me. Coach, he told me, he said- he said I want you to- he asked me to do a hitch, where I had to stop and go. So I saw Maurice coming up it was kind of a bad ball. It's like a fantasy, I don't know," Avery Weston, West Valley Football.
"Honestly it was a lot of work to me. I'm just going to thank God and how hard we worked every day to come here to this point. It's just an amazing feeling, winning," said West Valley Football.
