FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The West Valley Wolfpack found itself in unfamiliar territory last night against a Mid-Alaska foe, and that was playing from behind.
The Wolfpack were down 1-Oh to the Lathrop Malemutes and were able to turn the tides to sweep the rest of the sets.
The Wolfpack lost the first set 25-23, but won the next three 25-16, 25-21 and 25-22.
Zoey Vehmeier led the Wolfpack with 15 assists on the night, while Jozey Martellaro and Sarah Cooper both chipped in seven kills each.
Kami Steel finished the night with nine kills, 10 digs and two service aces.
Lathrop had a strong showing from both Kelli Fitzgerald and Harmony Laapui.
Fitzgerald had 15 digs, while Laapui went off for 13 blocks.
Ellen Silva of West Valley spoke after the game about her team battling back.
"It was good, I thought at the start that we kind of lost our energy in the first set. And as we progressed further we started to gain. It's nice to know that we have the athletes and players with the mentality to bounce back from losses like that and dropping out of it is difficult sometimes," said Silva.
