FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 11th annual Run of the Valkyries 5K concluded over the weekend, as some of the top runners this year continue to rack up top finishes under the hot sun.
As 135 runners were led by the vocals of the valkyrie.
The 5K men's division was won by Rick Lader, who completed the course in a time of 26 minutes and 2 seconds beating the entire field by 6 minutes.
Lader also claimed gold in the Midnight Sun Run earlier this summer.
In second, that went to Tommy Dahill and his time of 32 minutes and 5 seconds.
For the bronze, Eli Merrill grabbed it with a run time of 32 minutes and 24 seconds.
Daniel Abramowicz claimed 4th at 32 minutes and 43 seconds.
And to round off the top 5, we have Jacob Parker, who finished with a time of 34 minutes and 11 seconds.
For the women's division, Melanie Nussbaumer captured the title, while also coming in second for the entire field.
Nussbaumer took the gold with a time of 31 minutes and 43 seconds.
For the silver, that went to Erika Burr at 33 minutes and 53 seconds.
Then the bronze went to Gina Chythlook with her time of 34 minutes and 22 seconds.
Davya Flaharty took 4th with a time of 35 minutes and 58 seconds.
And finally, Anna Merrill captured 5th at time of 36 minutes and 36 seconds.
Both our winners spoke about the race after they cooled down.

Rick Lader said, "Yeah I'm feeling pretty good. This was kind of the last shorter race of this race season. I was trying to start building out to longer races. Once again, we had pretty good weather today and I felt really strong. I kind of used this as a really hard workout. Right from the gun I had to shock my body a little bit and forced it to go a little harder than I would have otherwise because that way I got into that high hearth rate zone."

"I've actually not run this one in years," said Melaie Nussbaumer. "And I didn't find myself really ready for it. It was kind of at the last minute, my husband said just go do it. So I did it and I didn't even know how I was going to do. But I felt really good. I think because I haven't done any training runs in a couple weeks my body was just ready to go."
