FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Goldpanners opened their 2019 NBC Congress tournament run with a victory over the Colorado Cyclones.
The Panners used a strong second inning to expand their lead, as Alaska won 10-5 over the Cyclones.
The Goldpanners got a combined effort of 4 hits and 6 RBIs from Collin Runge and Trevor Greenley.
Cam Walker got the win on the mound with 8 strikeouts in 7 innings of work.
The Panners opened Group C with the victory, and Head Coach Miles Kizer spoke to us about getting the "W".
"You know I think the biggest thing was our pitchers threw strikes and our hitters didn't swing at balls. I think that was one of the biggest things, we were able to take some walks, we had a couple of big hits when we needed them, and then Cam was able to shut down a big situation for them. Then Fricke in the 9th was able to kill a big situation that, I don't know if it would have changed the game but it would have made the game more interesting," said Kizer.
The Panners now prepare for the Kansas Cannons tomorrow night down in Wichita.
