FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Mid-Alaska Conference tournament started with a semifinal matchup between the Lathrop Malemutes and the North Pole Patriots.
And the Patriots dug deep to pull off the victory over their Interior rivals.
The Patriots were able to secure the 3-1 victory over the Mutes, thanks to the team figuring out the enigma, which was Lathrop's serves.
Lathrop was dominant with their serves showcased in the second set, when they won 25-11.
North Pole won their sets 25-20, 25-18 and 25-19, as they turned up the defensive intensity in the final two sets.
Ainsley Smith spoke after the match on how the Patriots made it to the finals.
"I think that we wanted to come together and we wanted to beat them at their own game because we want to take it to West Valley as well and hopefully go to state. He was saying that we needed to communicate with each other and make sure we call for the ball and say that we want to the ball and we are going to pass this ball to our setter and make a kill. Interesting, it's fun we like to since we are so young we are shorter compared to a high, high height of a team that we are able to take a set back even though we're short and we are younger and to come back and take sets off of them and that we can take it to them," said Smith.
