FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Monroe Catholic Rams girls' basketball program faced off against the Nome-Beltz Nanooks for a non-conference matchup here in the Interior.
And man did Grace Hodges and Katie Bast put on a show.
Both combined for 52 points in route to the Rams winning 61-47 over the Nooks.
Monroe's defense was on fire, getting multiple steals and leading to fast break points for the backcourt duo.
The third quarter was a showcase of what Hodges could do as her own scoring tied Nome at 11, while Bast scored 10 in the final frame to close out the night.
The freshman Bast has been a scoring machine lately, and she spoke after the game about playing for Monroe.
"It's awesome, I really love being on this team and it's a really good team environment. Our coaches are great and the teammates are great and it's just a great environment to be around. Well I couldn't do it without my teammates, when our players come off the bench they are focused on the game, and they give really good passes and I couldn't do it without them," said Bast.
The Rams take their momentum into the Joe "T" Classic today with a first round matchup against the Kodiak Bears.
The boys' squad also had a match against Nome-Beltz, and they pulled off a defensive clinic to shutdown the Nanooks.
The Rams won 53-34 over the Nooks, as Quinn McHenry ran wild on them with 14 points and multiple defensive stops.
Isaac Garcia chipped in 11 as the Monroe defense held Nome-Beltz to only 9 points in the first half.
The Rams scored 20 in the third quarter to put the final nail in the coffin, and now they ride into the Joe "T" Classic where they face the Kodiak Bears.
