The Lathrop Malemutes and the West Valley Wolfpack are combining together their hockey programs for this season

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Interior high school hockey is going to be a little different this season, as the Lathrop Malemutes and the West Valley Wolfpack have announced that they will be combining their squads this year.
You won't be seeing the Purple and Red battle it out on the ice, as the teams have combined to make, "The Pack".
In a statement made by the West Valley High School Hockey Facebook page, they spoke about the teams coming together and released their schedule for the 2018-2019 season.
This dramatic decision comes after the Interior hockey programs for public schools were on the chopping block this past school year.
The Pack will be part of the newly formed North Star Conference with the Wasilla Warriors and the Colony Knights.
So you may ask yourself, what about North Pole and the Mid-Alaska Conference?
Well folks, the MAC no longer exists, and the Patriots have been dropped down to Division II and join the Aurora Conference.
They will be facing teams like the Delta Junction Huskies, the Glennallen Panthers, the Hutchison Hawks, the defending state champs, the Monroe Catholic Rams and the Tri-Valley Viking Warriors.
A lot of realignment for Alaska State Hockey and the hockey season is right around the corner.
