The Hutchison Hawks take down the defending champs

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Hutchison Hawks hockey program have watched the Monroe Catholic Rams dominate the Division II landscape for the past few years, but Hutch might have closed some of the gap last night when they routed the Rams at the Patty Ice Arena.
The Hawks took it to the Rams, winning their home match 6–3, as the first period showcased the fast paced offense for Hutch.
But before the Hawks got going, the Rams scored two goals within 23 seconds of each other, with Caleb Sanborn and Antonio Szumigala finding the back of the net.
But in the final 6 and a half minutes in the first, we saw Hutch score 4 goals, with Rider Thompson, Sam Sattler, Blake Sanford and Ben Skellie lighting up Monroe.
Then in the second, Sanford scored his second goal after their offense couldn't get past Monroe's defense.
In the third period, Sanborn grabbed his second goal to make the match 5–3, but Corbin Layral closed the night with a goal to make it 6–3.
Blake Sanford spoke about the progression that this team has seen so far this season.
"It's been a little rough at the start, but we're slowly getting our team chemistry this win really helps us get together as a team. Hopefully we can get a hot start going," said Sanford.
