FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Yesterday the Hutchison Hawks took down the West Valley Wolfpack for the first time since 2014, and just for the second time in school history in a volleyball matchup.
They won in a five set thriller, and they can thank the defensive efforts of Allyona Mandregan for this victory.
The Hawks took the first set 25-21, but the Wolfpack fought back to win the second 25-17.
Then Hutch stunned them with the third set, taking it 25-18.
West Valley were able to force a fifth set, when they won the fourth 27-25.
But Hutch was able to close out the night winning the fifth 15-10.
Mandregan went off for 12 blocks, and Bri Majors chipped in 20 digs.
Emily Wayfield dished out 26 assists, as the Hawks take their momentum into a match against North Pole.
For the Wolfpack, they had 34 assists from Zoe Vehmeier, while Jozy Martellaro scored 12 kills.
And Ellen Silva worked out eight blocks.
West Valley now prepares for the Patriots next week for some Mid Alaska Conference volleyball.
