FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball program were looking to snap their 23 game losing streak against the Anchorage Seawolves, and had their closest game against their rivals down South since 2014.
The Nooks fell 81-70 to their bitter rivals, as they shot lights out in their attempt to upset the apple cart.
Angela Mournion led Alaska with 18 points on a night where the Nanooks shot 47 percent from downtown.
One of the reasons why Alaska fell to the Seawolves, the Nooks allowed Anchorage to grab 15 steals and they had 18 turnovers.
The last time Alaska was this close to beating Anchorage, they lost 96-87 on January 18 in 2014 during the early years of the Jordan Wilson and Kailee Skjold era.
Hannah Wandersee had herself a night against the Nanooks, as she went 3-3 from downtown and she scored 19 points in the game.
This drops the Nooks to 0-5 in the GNAC, and they will look to rebound with a matchup on Saturday against the Montana State Billings Yellowjackets at the Patty Center at 3 p.m.
