FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks completed another sweep at home, this time taking down the Saint Martin's Saints thanks in large part to their sophomore hitter in Lahra Weber, who had 15 kills and 4 aces.
The Nanooks grabbed the sweep with set scores of 25-18, 25-20 and 25-17.
Alaska had a strong night on serves, throwing in 6 aces and not surrendering an ace to the Saints.
Emily Moorhead led the Nooks with 5 blocks while Cate Whiting dished out 31 assists.
Tatum Upchurch and Makena Overbey combined for 29 digs on the night.
Their defense held the Saints to only a .126 hitting percentage while they hit for .258.
The third set was very impressive for Alaska, as they only had 4 errors compared to 17 kills.
Whiting was on point with her sneak attacks, getting four while also having zero errors on attacks.
The Nanooks have tied their overall win total from last season, and they spoke after the match about the sweep over Saint Martin's.
"Little unsatisfied with how we played. I won't say, I mean we got the win and we're beat up and banged up a little bit. So I'm stoked we got the win. I'm just, I think we could have been better, we could have been crisper. The third set to have six service errors in that set that was just gut wrenching for me," said Brian Scott, Head Coach - Nanook Volleyball.
"Coming out of first, and going to the second set I knew there was an emphasis for us and bring more energy to the court and I know some girls were doing it and some girls weren't it was just a weird vibe tonight on the court I don't think we accomplished it even in the third set," said Whiting.
