The 2019 Iditarod is underway with 52 mushers on their way towards Nome

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 2019 Iditarod started this past Saturday, as 52 mushers race towards Nome.

Let's take a look at the top of the standings.

Currently sitting in first is Nicolas Petit who is checked into the Rainy Pass Checkpoint.

The rest of the top five are at Rainy Pass, with Peter Kaiser in second.

In third is Joar Leifseth Ulsom, while in fourth it is Ryan Redington.

In fifth we have Aliy Zirkle.

Currently holding the red lantern spot is rookie Victoria Hardwick.
