FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Yesterday we heard from Vice Chancellor Keith Champagne about the head coaching position for the men's basketball program and the process they are going through.
But know what has been going on longer?
It's their search for an athletic director, a need that has been there since January this year.
Champagne says the University of Alaska Fairbanks is getting closer and closer to finding their person to lead the Nanooks.
Champagne is looking for a leader to bring the Nanooks into the 21st Century and aim for better marketing, much like how UAA did in their search for Greg Myford earlier this year.
The University is in need of an athletic director since Gary Gray left for Pennsylvania on January 21st.
The candidates are slated to come in the second week of July, and according to Champagne, the wait is worth getting a quality member for their team.
Keith shared his thoughts on where the direction of the program is heading.
"We're down to the final 3 candidates, they should be the week of July 10th, 11th, and 12th. And so, great process by Dave Barnes who's the faculty athletic representative and professor of engineering, he's chairing it for us so I'm excited about the caliber of the candidates with the men's basketball search and the AD search."
