FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The North Pole Patriots volleyball program won their second game in as many nights thanks to some timely offense.
The Patriots won 3-1 over the Monroe Catholic Rams, with Kinley Erickson and Madyson Conley combining for 20 kills, and Ainsley Smith chipping in 24 assists. Maddie Muramoto led the Rams with 8 kills, as the final set had a lot excitement and drama. The Patriots were close to closing out the Rams in the fourth set when they were up 22-13. However, Monroe would not go quietly into the night as they reeled off 10 straight points to take the lead.
North Pole then saw Erickson get the all important kill to break a 25-25 tie, as the Patriots won 27-25 in the fourth.
"It was great, we worked really well as a team together," said North Pole's Kinley Erickson. "It's just awesome to feel that success of having two wins together as a team, but It all worked together as a team and the pass was perfect and it all just came together. That's something that really stands out about our team this year is we don't give up and that's going to take us far and we're excited."
The Patriots take their momentum into next week for a match-up against the Hutchison Hawks, while the Rams travel down South to face the Valdez Buccaneers.
