FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks women's basketball team split their two games in the Mount McKinley Bank North Star Crossover.
With the University of Hawaii-Hilo Vulcans in town, the Nooks lost the first match 62 to 49.
Alaska struggled from the field, hitting for only 28.9 percent, and only getting four threes on the night.
They were led by Ashlie Blackburn who had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Lexi Carpenter had four steals.
This team is still looking for someone to take over the assist department, but as a team they spread the ball well.
One-third of their rebounds were offensive boards.
In the second match, Alaska wanted to flip the script, and play tougher basketball, and that they did as the beat the Vulcans 56 to 50.
They out-rebounded their opponents 53 to 33, as Lexi Carpenter opened up the scoring with 19 points on the night.
Ashlie Blackburn was close to a double-double as she had nine rebounds, eight points, and four steals, Marian Wamsley had a similar stat line as she also had a block on the night.
Sanni Salonen went on to get nine rebounds in nine minutes of play.
The Nanooks now prepare for the Seawolf Hoops Classic as they will be facing Western Washington State and Holy Names.
