FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Alaska Nanooks start their regular season this week with a tournament in Colorado. The blue and gold take their act on the road for the Colorado School of Mines Classic.
This starts on Friday with two match-ups. Alaska first takes on the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs and Northern State. Then on Saturday they face Fresno Pacific and Colorado School of Mines. The Nanooks will get their first look at other programs outside of their own.
"That's the whole purpose behind this trip is to, we actually knew that there would be great teams down there. We wanted to compete against the best because our conference has some of the best. Our end goal is we want to make it to the NCAA tournament this year." said Alaska Nanooks Head Coach Brian Scott. "This tournament allows us to better our strength of schedule plus prepare us for our own conference. Anything game like, soon as we get into a game scenario their going to work out some jitters. It's going to benefit them in all sort of different ways."
The Nooks face UC-Colorado Springs on Friday at 9 A.M. in Golden, Colorado.
