FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Alaska Nanooks hockey team split their series with the Bowling Green Falcons this past weekend, and they lost the first game two to one.
The Nanooks scored first after Troy Van Tetering hit the goal in on assists from Nikolas Koberstein and Chad Staley.
However, the Nanooks couldn't hold onto their lead with the Falcons attacking in the second period.
Mitch McLain knocked in the goal for Bowling Green to tie the game, while 55 seconds into the third period Alec Rauhauser hit the game winner.
In the second match, the Nanooks played to a two-two tie according to the NCAA and WCHA Overtime rules.
But a shootout was played to determine who gets a single point in the standings.
It started with Frederic Letourneau knocking in a goal for the Falcons, while the Nooks tied it up with Kylar Hope getting an assist from Zach Frye and Steven Jandric.
This was all in the first period, but in the second Stephen Baylis gave the Falcons the lead on a power play goal.
In the third period, Justin Woods tied it up with Ross Heidt and James LaDouce.
They then went on to win the shootout to give themselves a point.
The Nanooks are now two-four-and two with two points in the WCHA.
