FAIRBANKS, Alaska. (KTVF) The Alaska Nanooks struggled over the weekend, getting swept by the Minnesota State-Mankato Mavericks.

Alaska fell in Game 1 4-0 as they gave up three goals in the third period, two of those goals coming on the power play. The Nooks had no answer for MSU's offensive attack late in the game.

In Game 2, the Nanooks battled back a bit, but they lost 3-1 to the Mavs. Alaska got a goal from Antti Virtanen, as that was the Nanook's only goal in the two-game series.

Alaska drops to 8-8 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, putting them into a fourth-place tie in the standings with the Michigan Tech Huskies.

Their next match-up is at home starting on January 10 against the Lake Superior State Lakers who are coming off a split series against the Anchorage Series.
