Monroe combines with Tri-Valley for football

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Monroe Catholic Rams are combining with another school to produce a football program.
They will be joining with Tri-Valley to make a team.
This will be the first football players for Tri-Valley, while Monroe will be adding players to their thin roster.
The players from Healy will travel twice a week to practice here in town.
Monroe and Tri-Valley head off into unchartered waters with about 112 miles between them.
This new team will be called the Monroe Warrior Rams.
Head Coach Marcus Cogley spoke about this new challenge.
"We're really excited, one of the biggest things we're excited for is to combine with Tri-Valley and extend a lot of their student athletes a chance to play football. It's been in the works kind of for 10 years so far as them having their own team and it seemed like never quite happened. So when they came and talked with us a couple months ago we were really excited to provide them with an opportunity as well as kind of get some more numbers with our own program, so something that just benefited both of us a lot," said Cogley.
In the past, some programs in the interior have combined teams to fill out a roster, but never this far apart.
Summer programs are on the horizon.
