FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The 2019 football season is upon us with high school training camps opening yesterday.
We've talked about the Monroe Catholic Rams, and now we look at the Lathrop Malemutes.
The Malemutes start this season with a new quarterback, a new lead receiver and other important positions for the program.
Last year they went to the semifinals of the Division II playoffs where they lost in a heart breaker to the Eagle River Wolves.
Some of the seniors spoke to us about this upcoming year.
Jace Henry said, "It's very good, I've been waiting all year to get back with the team. I feel like we have good chemistry and get it rolling. It's definitely one thing I look forward to being able to lead the team to do better things. Cause it's not just me, it's the team's effort. If I can encourage everyone to do their best it makes all of us look good."
Josiah Opp said, "Right now I'm so happy to see everyone and see how the team turns out. A lot of new guys come in, it's really nice to see all these military guys come in and have the different talent, different skill set we need actually this year. I'm really excited to see how we perform."
Ethan Peltier said, "It's good to get back together, its been a long offseason, definitely a little bit rusty, definitely some things to work on. It's nice to see how the team looks this year and get pieces in."
AJ Olo said, "To me it's tough, everyone is a little bit rusty from Winter and getting back, but I think everything will come out fine."
