FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Lathrop Malemutes flag football program showed off their potent combination of speed on the outside with a speed option play that had the North Pole Patriots on the run.
Lathrop captured the 27-6 victory thanks to runs by Tahlia Rover who scored 2 touchdowns for the Mutes.
Both times Quarterback Aniya Tuck rushed to the outside and pitched it off to Rover who scampered into the endzone.
Tuck also scored on a Q-B run.
Their defense also stepped up with Rachel Wisel taking back a pick 6, while the rest of the defense snuffed out the Patriots' offense.
However they couldn't stop Dakota Darby's 87 yard touchdown run giving the Pats their only score of the night.
Wisel was excited to get the pick 6, and she spoke about running it in.
"It was so amazing, I saw the ball in the air, and I was like this is my moment, and I reached up and I secured it and I ran. I was so happy, there was so much adrenaline going through my body, and at the end I didn't know what to do with the ball and I was like ok. I was just so happy. It was, thank you. It was so great to see all their support and how happy they were for me," said Wisel, #7 Lathrop Defender.
