Heavy smoke in the Interior cancels sporting events

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Multiple organizations announced today the postponement of numerous sporting events due to the smoke.
The smoke is thick here in the Interior.
The Goldpanners pushed Game 1 against the South Bay Saints to Saturday, while the Interior Baseball League cancelled their games.
The Fairbanks Youth Soccer Association were also affected by the smoke, and their Program Director Tamara Shirley spoke about the changes.
"We set in place of policy quite a few years back and edited it recently. Basically if the air quality is in the unhealthy range or worse we cancel all games that we have at the soccer fields or at the complex. It's a combination of what is reccomended and what we've gotten from parents and what they would prefer. Typically we officially make that decision by the 4 P.M. hour, but if the writings is kind of on the wall we'll call that a little bit earlier in the day," said Shirley.
