The hockey community suffered a heavy loss after the unexpected death of former Alaska Nanook Chad Staley on March 9.

The former Nanook wore #22, playing four years for Alaska between 2015-2019. He played 127 games for the Nooks, collecting 17 goals and 38 assists for 55 career points. On the Alaska Nanooks Hockey Facebook page they paid tribute to their former skater.
“Chad was always the first person to lend a hand, picked you up when you were feeling down and had an unmatched work ethic. You could always find him holding/hugging a dog with his contagious smile & infectious laugh. On social media, numerous programs that Staley had played for gave their condolences to the community and his family. Many of the comments mentioned that Staley had an infectious laugh and smile, and the 25-year old's impact was felt among the many teams he skated for.

Staley’s last stop was playing for Unterland Cavaliers in Vidor, Itlay. He had scored 17 points this season.
