Athletes take on the North Pole Triathlon

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Over the weekend the North Pole Triathlon concluded out at Chena Lakes, with the athletes tackling a 1500 meter swim, a 40K bike race and a 10K run.
In the men's division, Michael Bakker took home the gold with a total time of 2 hours, 3 minutes and 48.91 seconds.​
He pulled away in the bike portion of the race just north of 57 minutes, going up by 8 minutes on second place.​
The silver went to 47 year-old Jon Iannaccone while the bronze was won by David Withoff.​
In the women's class, the gold was secured by Pam Winders with the run time of 2 hours and 24 seconds.​
In fact she only beat Kelley Jansen by 38 seconds despite trailing after the swim.​
Winders made up the time in the bike portion, and then pulled slightly away in the 10K.​
Kristen Hamilton finished with the bronze.​
The next race on the schedule is the Dusk 2 Dawn up at UAF.​
It begins at 12:47 A.M. and runs to 2:58 in the morning this Thursday.​
