Alaska State Troopers are reporting that 24-year-old Veramika Maikamava died while attempting to reach the 'Into The Wild' bus.
Troopers say that 24-year-old Piotr Markielau and his wife were trying to reach the bus on the Stampede Trail near Healy. They were attempting to cross the Teklanika River when the victim was swept under the water.
Her husband was able to pull her out of the water 75-100 feet downstream, but he said she was already dead by then.
Troopers recovered the body and sent it to the state medical examiner. An investigation is ongoing.
Troopers are encouraging people to enjoy the outdoors but be prepared for the challenging weather, water, and geographical conditions.
