A Fort Wainwright bomb disposal unit was called out over the weekend to investigate a potential explosive near the Alaska-Canada border.

Alaska State Troopers report that at 7 pm on Saturday, their Tok station received a report of a possible explosive in a pullout on the Alaska Highway near the Beaver Creek Border Station.
Troopers say their officers responded and located the possible explosive.

They contacted Fort Wainwright's Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit, which responded to assist.
The bomb squad determined the object was an explosive and appeared to be homemade.

An investigation is ongoing.
Troopers ask residents to contact them at 907-883-5111 with any information regarding the explosive.
