UAF receives $2.7 million donation, one of largest in history

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A generous donation was given to the University of Alaska Fairbanks from the estate of University Alumna and supporter, Grace Schaible. Schaible's gift of $2.7 million is one of the largest private donations in UAF's history. This amount was designated to benefit students, public radio and art collections on the campus.

The largest portion of the gift, totaling $2.2 million, including $1 million Alaska Airline miles, was given to support graduate students within the UAF Geophysical Institute.

Schaible received her history degree from the university in 1949. She later went on to attend George Washington University for her masters, and Yale Law School for her law degree. She would eventually become Alaska's first female Attorney General, as well as serve on the UA Board of Regents and the UA Foundation Board of Trustees.
