Troopers Identify Skier Killed in Hatcher Pass Avalanche

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Alaska State Troopers have released the name of a skier killed in an avalanche this week in Hatcher Pass.
Troopers say they got a call Wednesday at around 2:30 PM alerting them to an avalanche in the pass area near Palmer.
The caller told them one skier was still missing. that man was 60 year old Randall Bergt of Anchorage.
While search and rescue crews were on their way, they received word that searchers already in the area had found Bergt and were performing CPR.
Unfortunately, Bergt could not be revived.
His next of kin have been notified.
The Hatcher Pass area is a popular backcountry skiing and snowmachining destination for outdoor enthusiasts in South-central Alaska.
Last year, two people were killed in avalanches in the area.
