FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Teacher Ben Walker of Anchorage was recognized as the 2018 'Alaska Teacher of the Year' earlier this month, with Eric Rush of North Pole chosen to be the alternate.
As the alternate, Rush would take Walker's place as *Alaska's Teacher of the Year if Walker is given the *National Teacher award.
Rush is a third grade teacher at Ticasuk Brown Elementary School.
Oil and gas company B-P also hosts its own Teachers of Excellence award program.
Rush was a part of that program as well, and was honored for his work in the class room.
Rush says his priority is his students, and providing specialized learning to each child.
Eric Rush; Third Grade Teacher>>: "Right now the hot word is personalized learning. Hot words are personalized learning, and before the district announced that they were moving this direction I was kind of already doing some flexible seating and using different programs to kind of reach students at their level. That's what I kind of incorporate in my classroom. I try to make sure I have enough available options, choices for kids. I feel extremely lucky and it's exciting to see what five years, 10 years down the road is going to look like with classrooms, what teachers are doing for their classrooms and their students."
