ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - An Anchorage teenager suffered a gunshot wound to the head when a gun discharged as it was being handled by a second teen. The injured teen was transported by medics Wednesday afternoon to a hospital. Anchorage police say the wound was not life-threatening.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - Alaska's longtime public defender says he'll resign as soon as a replacement is appointed. Quinlan Steiner gave no reason in his resignation letter. An email seeking comment was sent to him Wednesday. Steiner's agency falls under the Department of Administration. Restrictions on Steiner's travel recently caught the attention of House Judiciary Chairman Matt Claman.

On 4/2/19 at approximately 2207 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle driving into private driveways in the area of Duchess Drive and Cottrell Campus Drive in Palmer. AST conducted a traffic stop on a black 200 Saturn 4-door (plate JBH676) in the area. Investigation revealed Cecelia White age 39 of Chugiak was driving while intoxicated with a 5-year-old child passenger. White was arrested for DUI-Alcohol and Endangering the Welfare of a Child 1st. She was also charged with Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test. White was transported to MSPT where she was remanded o/r.

On 4/3/19 Emmonak AST received a report of a death in Emmonak. Clara Andrews (age 79) of Emmonak had passed due to natural causes. Andrews family was with her when she passed away on 4/2/19. The State Medical Examiner's Office was contacted and Andrews remains were released to the family.

On 4/3/19 at approximately 1005 hours, AST received a report of a motor vehicle collision on Kalifornsky Beach Road near Judy Lynn Lane. AST arrived on scene and contacted the drivers of both vehicles, one of which was entrapped. Investigation revealed Julianne Barnes, 34 of Soldotna, was driving a Chevy Suburban when she crashed into the back of a Ford F150 driven by Thomas McCray, 64 of Soldotna. Both drivers were injured and transported to Central Peninsula Hospital. Barnes was charged with Negligent Driving. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor in the crash however the operation of a cell phone is believed to be. The investigation is ongoing.

On 3-31-2019 at approximately 1542 hours Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited James Rowland 43, of Wrangell, for unlawful storage of commercial Dungeness crab gear. Rowland the Dungeness crab permit holder aboard the F/V Dish was found to have gear in the water more than 72 hours after the closure of the season. Arraignment is set for 4/11/2019 at 1100 hours at the Juneau District Court.
