ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A strong earthquake has struck a remote section of Alaska's western Aleutian Islands, but seismologists say it didn't generate a tsunami. The Alaska Earthquake Center says the 6.5 magnitude quake occurred at 1:36 p.m. Tuesday in the Rat Islands.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The state of Alaska's new hold music is on hold. A project to replace the sleepy hold music for state office lines with music by Alaska artists drew widespread attention when it was announced in November, touting Portugal. The Man and four other artists with Alaska ties. A spokesman for Gov. Mike Dunleavy says it was paused after the public raised concerns with some of the music.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A 20-year-old Wasilla woman died in a two-car crash southwest of the city. Alaska State Troopers say Payton Petersen died Tuesday morning in a crash at 10 Mile Knik-Goose Bay Road. Troopers took a call on the crash just after 8 a.m. Investigators say Peterson was driving a compact car at high speed when she lost control and skidded into oncoming traffic. Her car collided with a pickup driven by 52-year-old Michael Moritz of Wasilla.

On 3/31/2019, Alaska State Troopers received a report that individuals hiking on the Rampart winter road located a male, later identified as Robert Appleford, age 65 of Fairbanks, with severe injuries. Life saving measures were attempted without success. AST from Fairbanks responded via Helo 2 and began a death investigation. Investigation revealed that Appleford was towing a large housing unit to a mining claim with a D5 dozer when he lost traction. He exited the dozer and attempted to unpin the skid trailer from its hitch when the dozer rolled backwards causing fatal injuries. Appleford’s body has been transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office. Next of kin has been notified.

On 3/6/19 at 1200 hours, Troopers in Anchor Point received a report that a 14 year old female had sexual relations with a 22 year old male. The girls mother reported finding out about the relationship and confronting the girl who admitted to the sexual relationship. The male was identified as Ethan Koch, 22 of Homer. As a result of further interviews and investigation, Troopers identified a total of 3 females ages 14-15 that Koch had engaged in sexual relations with. An arrest warrant was issued for Koch out of the Homer Court. Bail for the warrant was set at $10,000 and court approved third party. On 4/1/19 Seward Troopers located Koch and arrested him on the outstanding warrant. Koch was remanded into the Seward Jail on five counts of SAM 2nd and four counts of SAM 3rd.

On 3/30/2019, AWT issued citations to Agapito Bello, 65 of Ketchikan, Arthur Felarca, 60 of Ketchikan, and Roberto Lucar, 74 of Ketchikan, for taking an over limit of nonpelagic rockfish. The individuals were contacted by AWT while they fished the marine waters south of Ketchikan. Each citation has a set $140.00 bail.
