SITKA, Alaska (AP) - A 30-year-old man from a southeast Alaska village has been convicted of first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend. The Sitka Sentinel reports Albert Macasaet of Klawock was convicted Friday in Sitka in the July 31, 2016, strangulation death of 27-year-old Judylee Guthrie, the mother of his two children. He will be sentenced Sept. 9 in Klawock.

KOTZEBUE, Alaska (AP) - The body of a 52-year-old Ambler man has been recovered from the Kobuk River. Alaska State Troopers say Alvin Williams had been the subject of a search and his body was recovered Sunday about a mile south of the village of Kobuk. Williams was alone on a snowmobile when he left Ambler at about 3 a.m. Thursday for Kobuk, a trip of about 40 miles.

On 5/5/19 at about 2307 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to Mentasta Lake for a report of a DV assault. Subsequently, Duane Kaase, 39 yoa, of Mentasta Lake was arrested for assault in the third degree, two counts of violation of conditions of release and for two arrest warrants for failure to appear for court.

On 05/04/2019 at about 1902 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Tok stopped a vehicle for a moving violation. Investigation resulted in the arrest of Earl W. Kain, 59 YOA of Tok for DUI. Earl was also charged with Refusal to submit to chemical test.

On May 5, 2019 at approximately 0819 hours Alaska state Troopers responded to a 911 open line where a disturbance between a man and woman could be heard in the background. AST responded and determined an Assault and Criminal Mischief had occurred after a door was forcefully opened. Further investigation revealed Dustin Kokrine, age 39 of Fairbanks, has caused serious physical injury to his girlfriend from repeated assaults over time, resulting in an Assault in the Second Degree charge. AST is still attempting to locate Kokrine for questioning. Any information on his whereabouts can be directed to the Troopers at 451-5100.

On 5/3/2019, at approximately 2335 hours, Fairbanks AST conducted a traffic stop on a red Ford Taurus for a traffic violation. Investigation revealed that the license plate on the Taurus belonged to a Honda Civic. The driver, Lisa Purdy, age 50 of Fairbanks, was placed under arrest for misuse of vehicle registration plates. Lisa was remanded to FCC and released OR. The investigation remains on-going.

On 05-04-19 at approximately 0024 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks contacted Joseph Wilson, age 45 of Fairbanks, was contacted at a residence on Faith Lane in Fairbanks. Wilson had multiple outstanding felony and misdemeanor arrest warrants. Wilson was arrested on the warrants and was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

On 5-5-19 at 0015 hours AST was notified that the body of Alvin Williams had been recovered from the river. Next of kin is notified.

Original release:

On 5-2-19 at about 1330 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Kotzebue received a report from the Northwest Arctic Borough (NWAB) SAR group of an overdue snowmachiner. It was reported that Alvin Williams, age 52 of Ambler, had departed Ambler alone on a single snowmachine to the village of Kobuk at about 0300 hours on 5-2-19. A travel distance of about 30-40 miles. NWAB snowmachine searchers from Kobuk and the Alaska State Trooper plane from Kotzebue began searching the area. At about 1540 hours his snowmachine was located on the river trail. It had fallen through the ice and was submerged in water, about a mile south of Kobuk. Williams was not located and is suspected of going into the flowing river current and possibly under the ice. Ground search teams are currently searching the area and at exposed water openings downstream from the snowmachine. Williams has not been able to be located after a second day of searching. Immediate family is on scene and assisting at the search location.

On 5/5/19 AST received information about 2 overdue hunters out of Emmonak. It was reported the hunters left on one snow machine on 5/4/19 at about 1700 hours and were due to return in the evening. A search party went towards the area of Yupanik Slough and located the 2 hunters. The 2 hunters were not in distress and they had decided to stay the evening. AST would like to remind hunters to provide friends and family with a trip plan and keep them informed of their hunting plans.

On 5-4-19 at approximately 1320 hours Seward AST was advised of an injured hiker near Flatop Mountain. Jonathon Landgren, age 36 reported that his hiking companion Steven Reed age 34, of Kenai had dislocated his shoulder, was unable to hike out, and was requesting medevac. Lifemed responded and transported Reed in stable condition to Providence ER, Anchorage.

On 5-4-19 at approximately 2028 hours the Alaska State Trooper Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to the Floater’s Bar in Big Lake for a fight in the parking lot. The investigation revealed Scott Allen Hafer, age 36 of Wasilla drove a 2005 Chevrolet pickup while intoxicated and refused to leave the establishment property. Hafer was arrested for DUI (Felony 3 plus) and later charged with Refusal to provide a breath sample at Mat-Su West Trooper post. Hafer was later remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial without bail.
