JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - The Alaska Department of Health and Social Services has announced suspension of two months of payments from the state's Senior Benefits Program. The Anchorage Daily News reported Thursday that the May and June interruption of funds will affect 4,731 Alaska residents.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A New Mexico man died in a fall from a mountain east of Alaska's largest city. Alaska State Troopers say 25-year-old Daniel Dresher died Wednesday on Goat Mountain near Eklutna Lake. His hometown was not immediately available. Troopers say Dresher fell about 500 feet. The Alaska Rescue Coordination Center based at Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson recovered his body.

On 4/12/19 at approximately 0312 hours, Alaska State Troopers were notified of an escape from Alaska Department of Corrections – Point Mackenzie Correctional Farm, located at 13690 S. Guernsey Road in Wasilla. DOC personnel reported inmate Brian E. Church, age 59, walked away from the minimum-security facility between 2200 hours on 4/11/19 and 0200 hours on 4/12/19. Church was last known to be wearing street clothing to include jeans and a shirt. Church is described as a white male, 6’1” and approximately 205lbs, with brown/partially grey hair and brown eyes. AST do not believe Church has means of transportation or contacts within the area. An arrest warrant for Escape 2nd degree is pending. The public is encouraged to report any suspicious persons or circumstance in the areas of Point Mackenzie and Knik Goose Bay Roads to MATCOM Public Safety Dispatch at (907) 352-5401.

On 4/12/19, at 1045 hrs, State Troopers in Hooper Bay were notified of a death. Investigation found that Patricia Murran, 54 of Hooper Bay, died due to natural causes in her home. No evidence of foul play was found. State Medical Examiners Office released the body for burial. Next of Kin were present. Alcohol was a factor.

On 01/01/2019 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers were notified about wildlife violations committed by Nu Xiong , age 27 of Anchorage, on his YouTube channel. The investigation revealed video of Xiong taking grouse on Mystery Creek Road in Cooper Landing. In the video you can see Xiong step out of his vehicle and shoot down the center of Mystery Creek road on multiple occasions. On 4/8/2019 The Alaska Wildlife Troopers submitted charging documents to the Kenai Courts. Xiong was charged with Misconduct involving a weapon in the fourth degree times 20, Possession of illegally taken game, and failure to salvage a small game animal. A summons was requested for Xiong.
