Summer fest back for second year in Fairbanks filling the Carlson Center with sand

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The Carlson Center has traded ice for sand this weekend as the Second Annual 'Summer Fest' kicks off tonight. Summer fest starts the weekend off with a movie night for all ages.

There will be a Sun Salutations Yoga class Saturday morning, followed by games and activities throughout the day. They plan to round out the weekend Saturday night with a 21 and over concert featuring local band 'Shot Time'.

General Manager, Kristin Baysinger, says it's one way to escape the snow and stick your toes into something a little more like summer.

"Everyone can enjoy just something different to happen, take place in the wintertime when it's just cold and dark. We're tired of the darkness. We're ready for sunshine. We're ready for sand, and we're ready for outdoor activities. So we just wanted to bring a little of that during this time of year,” said Baysinger.
