Specialist Kirk is being honored as the Fort Wainwright Volunteer of the Year Active Duty Service Member. Although he volunteers at many different programs and organizations, Kirk says volunteering for the BOSS or Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers program is the most rewarding.
"Because one, that's where I first started, two, it has helped me grow as a soldier, get to see new soldiers actually try to get them out of the barracks, actually trying to let them know that there are things to do in Alaska as service members."

Sergeant First Class Jack Lee is being honored for his work as President of the Farthest North Chapter of the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club.

"We get volunteers together across the unit, and help within the community whether it be volunteer at a local school, help any other veteran organizations, anything we can get involved in the community with."
