Skagway mayor killed in bus crash in Washington D.C.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Skagway Mayor Monica Carlson and her mother Cora Adams were killed in a bus crash in Washington D.C. Wednesday night. Governor Mike Dunleavy and the first lady expressed their condolences to the family of Mayor Carlson and her mother, along with the residents of Skagway.

The governor said, "Rose and I join the community of Skagway in mourning the tragic and unexpected deaths of Mayor Carlson and her mother Cora. Mayor Carlson was by all accounts a devoted public servant and proud of her community. Skagway's loss is Alaska's loss."

Dunleavy has directed state flags to be flown at half staff on January 1. Alaska's U.S. Representative Don Young, and Senators Dan Sullivan and Lisa Murkowski also expressed their condolences.
