Security officer suffers fatal self-inflicted wound at Fairbanks federal building

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Fairbanks Police Department responded to reports of a gunshot at the Federal Building yesterday afternoon. According to the Federal Protective Services, there was a single gunshot reported at the building around 1:30 p.m.

They said the incident was not an active shooting situation but that it was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A press release from the agency said that a Court Security Officer under contract by the U.S. Marshals Service, suffered a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound. Court Security Officer Sean Martines was pronounced dead by the Fairbanks Police Department.

A joint investigation by the Federal Protective Service, U.S. Marshals Service and the Fairbanks Police Department confirmed the cause of death.
