Second man accused of attempted murder and kidnapping pleads guilty to a reduced charge

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Jerrey Vaneyke pleaded guilty to second degree assault and weapons misconduct in court Tuesday.
Vaneyke and Christopher Gillaspy were initially charged with attempted murder and kidnapping, along with multiple lesser charges -- including assault and robbery.
According to charging documents, Vaneyke and Gillaspy stole over $20,000 in rare coins from the victim, and then beat and threatened to kill her.
The victim was able to call the troopers who responded and arrested Vaneyke and Gillaspy.
Gillaspy pled guilty to second degree assault last week as part of a plea deal.
Vaneyke's deal comes with a 9.5 year plus one day sentence.

Gillaspy will be sentenced at a future date.
