FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The society for photographic education has come to The University of Alaska Fairbanks, bringing an array of artists, holding panels, workshops and portfolio reviews this weekend.

The theme of the conference is ‘In Our Own Voices: Culture Identity’. The conference invites photographers and educators to share their talent with local Fairbanks artists. The conference has added additional Alaska-based photographers, indigenous artists and educational opportunities to its agenda to reach out to Alaskan students.

One artist being celebrated as the Keynote speaker is Brooklyn based artist Lorenzo Triburgo. Triburgo’s photography focuses on identity and gender politics and they have brought a piece showcasing stonewall in a time lapse to their presentation this weekend.

Triburgo mentioned that this is an organization for everyone in the community, not just university students.

"SPE is a national organization with regional chapters. It's an organization for photographic educators and students and people interested in photography and it’s kind of moving the medium forward. So we all talk about progressive curriculum, and ways to use the medium in new and exciting ways. We just get together and share ideas and it’s really fun.”, said Triburgo.

You can find artist Lorenzo Triburgo and other photographers and speakers this weekend at UAF. The events are free for the public. You can find more information at https://www.spenational.org/conferences/in-our-own-voices-culture-identity
