PET OF THE WEEK: Meet the sled dog named Luke

The Force is strong with this one -- and you don't have to join the dark side for this good boy.

Meet Luke in this edition of Pet of the Week.

Here's what Sarah Harman, animal tender with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:

"Hi, my name is Sarah Harman. I'm here at the Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter with our Pet of the Week this week. His name is Luke, he is a three-year old Alaskan malemute.

He came to us from a mushing home, but before that he was also a house dog. So he has experience both in harness and in the house.

Luke was surrendered to the shelter because he wasn't getting along with the other dogs on the sled team. We believe it was mostly instigated by his sister, Leia, who has been adopted already. So, he's here by himself.

He's had a couple of mutual visits, [and] he's done really well with female dogs. We think he has potential to do well in a home that has another female dog. We encourage you to bring any dog you have in your home to come meet him to make sure that they'll be good friends.

He is a very sweet, laid back boy, [and] likes being outside with all of his fur. He's very comfortable in this weather, and could be a very good recreational skijor or hiking buddy, or could be a good inside dog. He has a lot of potential and has been waiting for a home for quite a while now. So I hope you will come down and visit him.

If Luke's not the one for you, we have a lot of dogs right now. We are very, very full. We also have several cats, several birds, guinea pigs and bunnies. So come down and find a new friend!"
