Here's what Kimberly Imbert, Animal Shelter Operations Supervisor with Fairbanks North Star Borough Animal Shelter, had to say:

"Hi I'm Kimberly and this weeks 'Pet of the Week' is Shooter. Shooter is a 11 month old pit bull and lab mix.

He was brought to the shelter originally because he was too rough with the children and then returned because his family couldn't afford to keep him.

Shooter is a typical puppy, he is almost full grown so he doesn't realize how big he is for a puppy. He does have some disruptive behaviors because he has all this energy. So he will get into the garbage or jump up on people if he is excited or bored.

Shooter does have a lot of great qualities though. Because he is a puppy he still has a lot of learning to do. He is kennel trained and house broken and he knows how to sit and be quiet when told to be quiet which is really unique.

Shooter doesn't do well with other intact male dogs but he was recently neutered and so he is kind of going into a juvenile phase and that's normal. He can learn how to be polite with other dogs if he is properly socialized in his new home.

Shooter can definitely benefit from an obedience class because he is such a big puppy. And he should go to a home with older children; no small children because he is so rambunctious and likes to jump up on people. And so that's something he needs to learn but not with small children in his home.

Shooter is a really sweet boy, he has a lot of energy, and if he has a family that will do something with that energy he will be a great companion.

Shooter has other dog and cat friends looking for loving homes at the shelter as well."
