FAIRBANKS, Alaska - A local man is facing multiple charges after a home invasion on Thursday that left two people injured.
Just after 10 a.m. Thursday, Fairbanks Police and Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a home invasion off Southern Avenue. Officers arrived to find one resident and one suspect had been shot. Police Chief Eric Jewkes explained more.
"We got called from one of the residents on Southern that said that two men in ski masks and dark clothing had broken into their house with a gun, and then of course there was a gun fight that ensued with one of the residents that were in the apartment," he said.
The suspects were identified as Michael Beard and William Vent. Vent had fled on foot before officers arrived. The injured resident and Beard were transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Chief Jewkes is confident that the victim is in stable condition, but Beard was transferred to Seattle for further treatment.
Vent was arrested a short time later near College Road. He will be charged with assault, burglary, robbery, and weapons misconduct. Beard is expected to face similar charges once he recovers from his injuries.
Vent was scheduled to be arraigned on his charges Friday, but the hearing was rescheduled for Saturday.
