FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KXDF) On a sunny day at the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus new and returning students are starting class, books in hand and ready to learn.

Freshman Benjamin Stream from Anchorage Alaska was practicing his chess skills to keep his mind sharp for academics.
"So far first day has been great, met all my teachers, class sizes were pretty small. So it was good." Said Stream.
Sophomore Melanie Sexton commented on how it felt to be back for her second year.
"It feels really good to be back I keep running into people all over the place and I just love talking and hanging out and it’s been awesome."
In 2019 over 700 students had enrolled for the school year. As of yet we are not sure the reduced budget has not affected the attendance.
