FAIRBANKS, Alaska - Over the weekend, Senator Lisa Murkowski welcomed U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin to Alaska. During the Secretary's visit, Senator Murkowski introduced Mnuchin to local community and business leaders to discuss Alaska's economic opportunities.
In a press release issued by Murkowski's office, she said, "This visit was a tremendous opportunity for both the Secretary and Alaskans to discuss our unique needs and opportunities. With last year's passage of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, it was also valuable for the Secretary to hear from businesses about how tax reform is encouraging the economic growth needed to create jobs, generate new revenue, and grow our economy."
Governor Bill Walker also hosted Secretary Mnuchin in Fairbanks for a gas line discussion. According to the Governor's Office, Governor Walker organized a briefing on the Alaska LNG Project, which was led by Alaska Gasline Development Corporation President Keith Meyer.
The Governor said, "In my meetings with Secretary Mnuchin, both in Washington and in Fairbanks, he has expressed strong support for the Alaska LNG Project. He understands that this is America's infrastructure project and that it represents a trillion-dollar opportunity. When the Secretary requested this briefing, I selected Fairbanks because of the Pipeline Training Center, which demonstrates what this project will mean for Alaskan workers."
