FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) The Municipal Election is on October 1, 2019, which is just a week away. As voters prepare for the election, there is some information that might be helpful for that preparation.

Fairbanks North Star Borough Clerk April Trickey says the municipal election is important to everyone who lives in the borough. “The assembly makes decisions every two weeks that affect all of us, so I think it’s really important for people to get out there and vote and let their voice be heard,” said Trickey.

How to vote:

Bring a form of identification to the polling place that represents the precinct you live in. Voters who do not have identification can fill out a questioned ballot, where their identity will then be verified. Trickey says all questioned ballots are counted and are counted along with absentee ballots on October 8th.

For those voting in person on Election Day, polling places can be located at HERE and there is also a map provided by the borough to show voters which precinct they live in HERE.

Trickey says voters can also call the State of Alaska’s polling place locator at 1-888-383-8683 and they can help tell you where your polling place is.

For those voting in person absentee, because they will not be available on Election Day, they can go to the borough building at 907 Terminal Street in Fairbanks, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, including the Monday before the Election. Voting will be in the assembly chambers. In person absentee voting can also be done at Fairbanks City Hall and North Pole City Hall.

Voters have until noon on Monday, September 30th to request an electronic absentee ballot. The application can be emailed or faxed to the borough office. In order to vote using an electronic absentee ballot, one would need the ability to print an oath, that needs to be completed and witnessed, as well as the paper ballot, which can be faxed or emailed back.

What you are voting on:

For voters who live in the City of Fairbanks, they will vote on a city mayor and two city council seats. For voters in the City of North Pole, they will vote on two city council seats. All residents who live inside the borough will be voting for four borough assembly seats as well as two seats on the school board.
